Emotional Tenacity

Hello, I appreciate you sharing this time with me. I hope I can contribute to making your day better today. A few days ago, I was speaking to a friend of mine who mentioned that recently he had just had one of his worst days. And the next day he woke up with focus and one by one resolved the issues and tasks from the day before. His comment was that with focus and discipline everything could be solved. At any particular moment except this one I would agree with him. So I openly disagreed. There are times when life treats you like a piñata. With one hit after another. Bam, bam, bam. Like the saying goes, “when it rains it pours”. At these times we can think that our focus and discipline will move us forward but it is not true. Why? Because we simply do not have full access to our emotional resources in order to make the best decisions and take the best action. The answer, is what I call having “emotional tenacity”. What do I mean? The answer is simple… Tenacity is defined as “the total energy that a given material can absorb before reaching a breaking point under impact conditions”. When we are working towards our objectives and we receive one hit after another, discipline and focus, from my perspective, will not be the solution. Maintaining our emotional resources in balance while we withstand the beating we are receiving and continue to move forward, in the direction we desire, is the solution. I want to share with you five essential points necessary for “emotional tenacity”: 1. You are not a piñata. A piñata is an inert object. Which brings me to, number… 2. You are a human being with the capacity to have faith, vision, the power of decision and of action. 3. Having faith is believing that even though you do not have the answer or solution at this moment the situation will be resolved in your favor. 4. Human beings are social beings. We live in order to help and protect those that belong to our “tribe”. Use this. Talk to your friends, family and/or professional contacts. I am certain that you will find a fresh and objective perspective, even a helping hand. 5. You are your most important asset. Take care of yourself. In certain occasions the best you can do is recognize the need to draw the line, set a boundary, pause, take a temporary break, breath and tomorrow will be another day. Every living being has to fight, one way or another, to survive each day. It is not personal. It simply is. However, for us humans our best fights, the ones that lead us to victory are those in which we have that internal strength that no one can overcome. We need to have our resources available. One essential ingredient for this is having “emotional tenacity”. I hope this has contributed to your victory and triumph. ¡Espirito Forte! Best regards, Jorge Ariel
